Government debt represents government's failure to live within its means as well as a preference for dumping current costs into the laps of future genera tions—with interest. This year alone, interest on the national debt (including all past deficits) will cost tax payers $234 billion (8 percent of total spending).

If you owned a corperation and found that your branch managers were
1) Spending more money then they had
2) Not writing the proposals that you hired them to write but having someone else write them
3) Then signing those proposals without reading them
4) Getting angry with you when you called them on it.
You would fire them.
That is what we have with our elected officials from the local level to the federal.

Years ago, GOA's Founder and Chairman H.L. "Bill" Richardson wrote a book entitled, What Makes You Think We Read the Bills? As a former state senator, Richardson knew of the antics and dirty tricks that go on in our legislatures across the country.
The healthcare bills that were being written in congress, the same bills that they tried to ram through before the public could see it, were not read.
A near trillion dollar "Stimulus Bill" filled with almost solid pork, dispite the fact that both parties have promised an end to pork spending, was rammed through, and no one read it. And while the Republican's voted against the bill, they still packed it with their own pork spending.
