VRFR Responds to Smoke in a House
While out on a training detail, Valley Regional and Freeland Ladder was dispatched to 11 Edge Rock Drive in Beech Mtn. for smoke in a structure, possible structure fire. Engine 1 with Asst. Chief 2, Tower 1 with Lt. 3 and Tanker 1 were on the street instantly due to being out on training. While enroute County advised that a hair drier had caught fire and there was smoke in the residence and fire believed to be out. Eng. 1 arrived on scene with nothing showing Asst. Chief 2 calling command requesting the Tower take the front of the building. Lt. 3 took crews interior to find a hair drier that had caught fire on the counter in the bathroom. Fire was out prior to FD arrivial. Eng. 2 arrived and secured the power to the bathroom. The house was ventilated and crews went available. [Click for pictures]

VRFR Responds to 1st Due Structure Fire
At approx. 0520 hrs. Luzerne County 911 radioed for Valley Regional Fire Command. Lt. 3 (Tarapchak) answered and was advised of a garage fire in Sugarloaf Heights. Seconds later the box was put out for Valley Regional, Freeland Truck, and Sugarloaf Fire to respond to 333 Sugarloaf Heights Rd. for a garage on fire. C-1 immediately signed on and went enroute to station. A portable arrived on scene reporting a working fire just as Engine1 and the Chief hit the street. The portable advised there was only room for one engine to get up the driveway and for the first arriving to lay a supply line. Engine 1 and 3 arrived at the same time with E-1 laying in and the Chief taking command reporting a 2 story garage with a apartment on the 2nd floor and with heavy fire from side A and the roof. Crews began making a defensive attack and putting into service 3 handlines and controlled the fire in approx. 30 mins. Sugarloaf Engine picked up the lay and supplied E-1 and a tanker water shuttle was used. Hazle Twp Eng was at the fill site at Bergers pond. Freeland Ladder arrived and assisted in fire attack and overhaul. Once the fire was under control, crews went interior and overhauled the building and put out the remaining fire. Units operated on scene for 4 hours. The Fire Marshall was called to the scene and determined the cause of the fire to be a lightning strike to the satellite dish in the yard. Engine and Tanker battle Truck fire on I-81.
VRFR was dispatched to I-81 SB mm 153 for a fully involved truck fire. Engine 2 went enroute with Capt. 1. While enroute Luzerne County Communications advised that PSP was on scene stating to put an X on it and that the I was shut down. Engine 2 arrived onscene and began making the hit. Rice Twp arrived also and assisted VRFR crews. Fire was knocked and crews began overhaul due to the truck was carrying paper. Heavy machinery was brought in to break up the load. Units operated on scene for a couple of hours. Battalion 1 had command.

Truck and Rescue respond to another working house fire in Freeland.
Valley Truck and Rescue requested to Centre St. in Freeland on a House fire with 2 structures involved. Freeland Chief arrived on scene immediately requested a 2nd alarm due to 2 structures being involved. Rescue 2 crew arrived and went to work in the 2nd structure (1st structure fully involved). Tower 1 arrived and set up at the A/D corner of the 2nd structure if it was needed. Units from VRFR operated for a couple of hours. [click for pictures]

Engine and Brush assists Sugarloaf on a Large Mountain Fire.
VRFR Engine and Brush requested to assist Sugarloaf operate on a Large brush fire on the Nescopeck Mtn. 177 Chief 4 arrived first and requested a 2nd alarm for the brush fire due to the size. VRFR units arrived and went to work in the woods trying to control the fire. Engine 2 crew went to the top of the mountain and worked their way down to stop the fire while Brush 1 crew started at the bottom and worked up the mtn. assisting Sugarloaf's crews. Forestry was called in for air drops. Crews operated for about 3 hours. [click for pictures]

VRFR responds to Upper Lehigh for a Large Brush Fire.
VRFR units were dispatched to the Upper Lehigh Section of Butler for a large fire in the woods. Units arrived and traveled about a 1/2 mile in the woods on the brush truck and pick ups to reach the fire. The fire burned over the top of the mountain. Forestry was called in to make a couple of air drops due to the size of the fire. The fire was contained in about an hour and a half. [click for pictures]

Brush 1 responds to Hazle Twp. for the Large Brush Fire.
Valley Regional Brush 1 was requested to assist Hazle Twp. on Rt 924 for the large brush fire. Brush 1 assisted Hazle Twp for numerous hours making fire lines and suppressing the fire. The fire at one point had jumped I-81 SB at the 143mm. Engine 2 was requested to that location to make a knock on the fire before it jumped to the other side of the interstate. Engine 2 arrived with E-102 and Foster Wagon and knocked down the fire. Engine 2 went back to covering the area due to most units being committed to the brush fire. [click for pictures]

Engine, Rescue, and Truck Respond to Freeland on Commerical Building Fire.
Valley Regional Engine, Truck and Rescue were requested to respond to the scene of a working fire at 306 Centre St. Rescue Crew arrived and assisted with suppression and went around the rest of the building checking for extension. Truck was set up on Side B of the structure but was not needed. Engine 1 was placed into staging. Fire was in the basement of the Commercial/Apartment Building. [click for pictures]

VRFR Tanker responds to Foster Twp on a Commercial Building Fire.
Valley Regional Tanker was requested to Rt 940 in Foster at Citterio's for a Commercial Structure Fire. Tanker responded and staged in case it was needed.

VRFR responds on 2nd alarm Structure Fire in Wright Twp.
VRFR Engine and Tanker were requested 2nd Alarm to Morio Drive in Wright Twp. for a house fire. Multiple units from different parts of the county were dispatched. Units from Wright Twp arrived to find fire through the roof requesting a 2nd alarm which brought Engine 1 and Tanker 1. Valley Units arrived and staged to assist when needed while the Tanker assisted in water supply. [click for pictures]

VRFR responds to 2nd Alarm House Fire in Sugarloaf Twp.
VRFR was hit out for Engine 2 and Tanker 1 to respond to Sugarloaf Twp. on a 2nd Alarm House Fire. Sugarloaf was originally dispatched to 19 Pecora Rd for a Poss Structure Fire. Chief 177 arrived on the scene with smoke showing requesting the 2nd Alarm. As the 2nd Alarm was being dispatched command reported now heavy fire showing side A, 2nd division. Tanker 1 went enroute with Asst. Chief 1 and a few mintues later Engine 2 went enroute with Lt. 3. Engine 2 arrived and went to work assisting Sugarloaf and Hazle Twp. Sugarloaf crews held the fire to 1 room and some extension into the attic. Crews overhauled the attic and rooms adjacent to the fire room checking for extension. VRFR busy on March 2nd as a Snow Storm pounds NEPA.
Valley Regional Stayed busy on Monday with more than 5 calls as the Valley got pounded with heavy snow. The day started off with VRFR and Medic 26 being dispatched to 2 Airport Rd. for a CO alarm reported no illness. Lt. 3 arrived first establishing command and made contact with the homeowner who was in her vehicle with kids. Eng 1 and 26 arrived next. Crews were sent in with the Multigas meter and found readings over 66ppm. Command requested 26 to evaluate the 5 total pts due them feeling sick. Crews inside found the source to be an oil furnace that ran out of oil. Command Requested the structure to be vented and once levels were 0ppm the homeowner and kids were aloud back in after signing off with 26.

While enroute back to Station Engine 1 was alerted for an MVA on Freedom Rd and this is what got the ball rolling for calls. Units were quickly canceled by Battalion 1 due to no injuries. After arriving back in Station VRFR was dispatched to I81 SB MM 148 for an MVA involving a tractor-trailer. Rescue 2 with the Chief went responding. While enroute Luzerne County Communications alerted command that they had a large amount of diesel fuel on the ground. Rescue 2 arrived and found no injuries but more than 50 gallons of diesel fuel on the ground. The leak from the tanks were contained and DEP was notified. While on scene Command was alerted by PSP that one of there cruisers were hit. Just seconds later LCCC alerted command of another MVA rollover. While enroute Medic 26 came across an MVA cars in the median. Medic 26 reported no injuries there. Rescue 2 arrived to find one van on its side all occupants out of the van. Crews secured power to the vehicle. All in all it was a busy day for Regional Fire.
